We live just north of Charlotte and have visited many of our local wineries over the years. There are so many options it may be hard to choose, so here is a great list.

If you’re a wine lover in Charlotte, NC, you don’t have to go too far to find some of the best wineries in the region. Within a two-hour drive from the city, you’ll discover a plethora of vineyards and tasting rooms that are sure to delight your senses.

The area surrounding Charlotte is home to many world-class wineries, each with its unique charm and offerings. From rolling hills to scenic vistas, these wineries are nestled in some of the most breathtaking countryside in the region.

You’ll be amazed by the quality of wine produced in this region, which has quickly become a destination for wine enthusiasts. So, grab your tasting glass and get ready to explore some of the best wineries within two hours of Charlotte, NC. 

Below, I’ve included some of my favorite wineries at the moment. I will update the list as I explore more, but I am grateful to live close to wine country in North Carolina and sample some of the best wines in the region. Enjoy all the amazing wineries near Charlotte!

1. Seven Jars Winery and Distillery

Seven Jars Winery and Distillery is deeply intertwined with Charlotte’s prohibition era and celebrates the deep love for wine, spirits, and craft beers. The distillery is where they started by making top-notch bourbon, rum, and vodka. 

Next, they opened their winery, and lastly, they opened their brewery with true “small batch” beers. Tours are offered for each place, and they offer distilling, wine-making, and beer production classes. 

2. Dover Vineyards

Right outside of Charlotte, in Concord, is the beautiful Dover Vineyards. They are a family-run business and not just a winery either. Dover Vineyards is also a full-working vegetable farm. 

This is a relaxing place to enjoy wine tastings (by appointment only), visit their spring and summer concert series, or even try one of their classes. You can also sign up for their CSA veggie box or visit their farm stand with farm-fresh vegetables and other homemade goods.

3. Rocky River Vineyards

Rocky River Vineyards has been growing grapes and serving award-winning wines since 2003. Visitors can find them tucked away on 45 acres in eastern Cabarrus County. They have an elegant winery offering panoramic views of the vineyards.

4. Douglas Vineyards

Douglas Vineyards opened in 2015 in Kannapolis, NC. They have a very welcoming and comfortable approach to wine tasting and hope to provide a relaxing environment for each guest.

They have a lovely dog-friendly outdoor patio that looks out over the vineyards and plenty of indoor seating as well. Events like live music, paint & sip parties, and weddings are often held at Douglas Vineyards.

Veronet Vineyards and Winery is an exceptional winery with a beautiful setting, just 40 minutes from Charlotte. Nestled on 70 acres, Veronet Winery offers a beautiful indoor and outdoor space for you to enjoy their wines. Guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to sit on the lawn. 

Veronet Winery hosts food trucks every weekend and is family and dog-friendly outside. It is a great space to watch the sunset and enjoy refreshing wines in a casual, comfortable environment.

7. Hilton Vineyard at The Vines

Larry Hilton and his late wife have been growing grapes since 1969 and, over the many years, have perfected their techniques and recipes to create the best-tasting wines. Hilton Vineyard is home to 3 acres of European grapes, including 60% French Hybrid grapes. 

Their newest location, Hilton Vineyard at the Vines, is a beautiful location tucked in between grape vines, blackberry vines, and plum trees.

Hilton Vineyards holds $5 wine tastings until 6 pm every day. Live musical events take place all summer long, and they also host themed and food events all year round.

8. Davesté Vineyards

Daveste Vineyards started in 2005 after the owners bought 60 acres of land next to Lake Norman State Park. This is a beautiful vineyard, tasting room, and art gallery, with a location to make the heartthrob.

This winery has it all from a rustic indoor taproom, a Southern-style wrap-around porch, and gorgeous views of the vineyards. Not only do they serve fresh wines, but they also serve beer brewed on-site at the small-batch brewery.

To top it all off, they have teamed with Flock Bistro, a gourmet food experience to pair with the wine and beer tastings. Make sure to leave room for the food; it’s delicious!

9. Cauble Creek Vineyard

Cauble Creek Vineyard is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Most notably, they are North Carolina’s 100th winery to open. Since 2006, Cauble Creek has specialized in growing Muscadine varieties of grapes to produce all your favorite styles of wine.

Cauble Creek has a large and inviting tasting room with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. They hold a variety of events from yoga to live music, wine & paint nights, and their famous annual event, “Pick your Own Grapes,” held in September.

10. Kefi Vineyards & Winery

Kefi Vineyards is named after the Greek word “Kefi,” meaning in the spirit of joy, zest for life, triumph, and passion, which they bring to every glass of wine they produce. Kefi Vineyards specializes in a unique variety of Mediterranean grapes to produce excellent wines.

Dennis Vineyards is a beautiful winery and event space. They specialize in a variety of wines and growing Muscadine grapes.

Uwharrie Vineyards & Winery is a hidden gem in Albemarle, NC. The staff are personable and make each guest feel like they’re right at home in their rustic-style tasting room.

Vineyard at The Old Place is a family-owned and operated business that celebrates Anson Counties’ agricultural land. They are named after the old Red Hill Schoolhouse, which the owners once called home. Visitors like to say this is an “off the beaten path” type of winery with amazing vibes, a friendly staff, and an intimate setting.

After all of his time spent in California, NASCAR team owner Richard Childress set out to open his own winery and found the perfect location just minutes away from his race shop in North Carolina. Working closely with a world-class winemaker, Childress produces wines at their beautiful property.

You’ll be blown away by the beauty of the large estate. 30-minute walking tours are available to see the property and the wine cellar. No one under 21 is allowed on tour, and only anyone 18 and older is welcome on the property. If you are hungry, The Bistro serves elegant meals every day from 10-4 and brunch on weekends. It is the perfect place for a romantic evening.

16. Curran Alexander Vineyards

Curran Alexander Vineyards is a property that has been in the owner’s family for over 150 years. You’ll find that their winery and the property itself have a very relaxing, comfortable feel like you’re at home.

The house on the property was the original family home, built in the 1800s. The owners have renovated it into a beautiful vacation rental or the perfect spot for a bridal party. Their small tasting room will soon be replaced by a custom-built facility that will seat up to 150 guests. They also feature a large outdoor covered tent that can seat 250 for weddings or other events. Pets and families are allowed.

Native Vines Winery is the first Native American-owned and operated winery in the United States. The winery sits on 36 acres of beautiful rolling hills, boarded by the Old Waxhaw Indian Trading Trail and Indian Grave Creek.

Arrowheads can still be found in the soil today. Their award-winning wines and unique line of green tea blends are served in their beautiful tasting room. We were not sure what to think when we saw the green tea wine, but it exceeded our expectations.  Such a unique flavor; make sure to give it a try!

18. Weathervane Winery

What started small has become a popular place for weddings, concerts, wine tastings, wine tours, and other events. They have a large selection of wines and a kind and caring staff that is very passionate and very knowledgeable. 

At Weathervane Winery, there is no mass production of wine, so everything is hand-produced and made to perfection. Food is offered during their summer events, though guests are welcome to bring their own picnics as well. Pets and children are also welcome.

19. Lazy Elm Vineyard & Winery

Nothing is more relaxing than sipping a glass of wine under a beautiful lazy elm. The owners of Lazy Elm welcome guests to escape from the rush of life and enjoy the paradise of their beautiful 43 acres. 

Although it is a small winery, the wine truly stands out. The winemaker is happy to greet you to tell you about the entire wine-making process. Bring your own picnic to share with friends under the elms. Dogs are welcome.

20. Junius Lindsay Vineyard

At this boutique, French-style vineyard, Junius Lindsay Vineyards shares the only open-air tasting room in North Carolina. This way, guests are encouraged to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. 

Since 2004, the Zimmerman family has been growing grapes only native to the Rhone Valley of Southern France to bring wonderful French-style wines to North Carolina. Specialty desserts are paired with select wines, and guests are welcome to bring snacks from home. Live music events are held all year long on their outdoor patio. Dogs are welcome on the outside patio.

The story of Laurel Gray Vineyards goes all the way back to 1773 when their ancestor was gifted 400 acres as a gift for being the queen’s gardener. The land has gone from a tobacco farm to a dairy farm and is now a thriving vineyard. The Myers family strives to create the best wines using only sustainable and organic farming.

Tours of the winery, vineyard, and property are available upon request. The tasting room is in a converted dairy barn that is now adorned with beautiful works of art. Deli-style sandwiches are offered in the tasting room.

23. Windsor Run Cellars Vineyard, Winery & Distillery

Wine isn’t the only thing Windsor Run Cellars specializes in. The owners also distill their grapes into premium spirits and meads. In their beautiful log cabin-style tasting room, you can sit by the fireplace and relax with your choice of wine, mead, or spirit. 

The owners of Windsor Run Cellars (the Johnson family, also owners of Shadow Springs Vineyard below) have a fun, carefree attitude, and they bring excellent service to their tasting room. Be sure to try their award-winning dessert wine! Their outdoor patio is pet-friendly. 

24. Shadow Springs Vineyard

Shadow Springs is like a traditional winery without a conventional attitude. The space is comfortable, clean, and well-decorated, but the feeling of the winery is uplifting, cheerful, and nonjudgmental. They have been open for 17 years and are a local favorite.

Their wines are fitting for every season, with fruity wines in the summer and red wines in the winter. You can enjoy these wines in their inside taproom, on the outdoor patio, or in the elegant gazebo overlooking the water.

Live music is held during the summer and early fall, where you can see good bands and eat great food from local food trucks. Food is not sold, though guests are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch. Dogs and children are allowed outside.

25. Stony Mountain Vineyards

Dynamis Estate Wines is a 21+ establishment, and reservations for tastings must be made in advance. Cheese boards with accoutrements are served with each private tasting. Dogs are not allowed. Reservations are required to enter the grounds. This is one of our favorite wineries near Charlotte.

27. Brandon Hills Vineyard

Brandon Hills Vineyard is a family-owned and operated facility. On their 40 acres of land, they have 4 acres of vineyards and a large winery building with an upstairs deck and an outdoor patio. 

They are small but like it so that they can pay the utmost attention to the grapes. 

For each purchase of their award-winning “Red Raptor” bottles, $1 goes to the Carolina Raptor Center. Brandon Hills Vineyards is that fantastic pet and family-friendly winery that not everyone knows about. There is no food on-site, but you are welcome to bring your own. 

28. Raffaldini Vineyards & Winery

Raffaldini brings a classic Tuscan charm to Yadkin Valley with their Italian dry wines. They work with the land to create delicious wines that have been part of the Raffaldini heritage for centuries.

During your visit, book a guided tour of the vineyards to learn more about the wine and the winemakers (offered seasonally). The National Wildlife Federation is pleased to recognize Raffaldini Vineyards as a thriving wildlife sanctuary, so as you walk through the gardens, you’ll see lots of happy frogs, bugs, butterflies, birds, and more.

At Raffaldini, they work hard to create a safe, relaxing, and inmate experience for the guests. This means anyone under 21 is no longer allowed at the facility. However, they host several family days throughout the year with live music, food trucks, and games. Dogs are not allowed.

29. Piccione Vineyards

The Piccione family’s roots are in Sicily, and their picturesque vineyard in the Swan Creek AVA makes for a perfect location to produce some excellent Italian and European-style wines. Piccione has one of the best views in Yadkin Valley.

Piccione holds live events almost every weekend at their current tasting room, including live music, themed dinners, and dessert tastings. Food trucks are also booked every weekend. Bring your well-behaved furry friend to the outdoor patio or the children to enjoy the view.

Enjoy their new tasting room – La Collina, meaning “hilltop” in Italian. This exquisite space boasts breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering a range of remarkable areas to discover and indulge in the rich winemaking heritage of North Carolina.

The vineyard is small, just 5 acres, and they produce less than 1000 cases of wine each year. However, they focus on quality instead of quantity, which shows in their great-tasting wines. Dogs are allowed, as well as any outside food items and non-alcoholic drinks.

At Carolina Heritage Vineyards, the owners strive to grow wine in the most organic and environmentally friendly way possible. To do that, they use only grapes native to the area, prevent chemicals from getting into the water, reduce their water use, and are a solar-powered farm. 

They also offer a vacation rental, “The Olde Farmhouse,” a farmhouse that has been on the land since 1928. Freshly restored and with new modern furniture, this is the perfect place for a weekend getaway.
